Hyperspectral × AI! CAS Xi'an Optoelectronics & Aerospace Illuminates the Technological Future of 2050

2026-04-27

On April 26th, a warm and relaxed tech gathering, with no mandatory registration or tight agenda, kicked off at the Yunqi Hall in Yunqi Town, Hangzhou. As one of the key events of the "2050 Conference," the launch ceremony of the "2050 Space AI" spacecraft was officially held. Initiated by Zhejiang Lab and organized by China Commercial Fund, the event brought together 11 institutions and 13 speakers. Driven by the belief that "AI should go to space," partners from the fields of commercial aerospace, artificial intelligence, and investment spontaneously gathered, filling the venue to capacity.

Coinciding with the 70th anniversary of China's space program, this cross-industry dialogue brought together...AI and Commercial SpaceflightThe two major fields truly came together, bringing cutting-edge technology from concept to reality. Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics CAS Aerospace Science and Technology Group Co.,LTD was invited to make a grand appearance, and Lei Teng, the company's vice general manager, delivered a speech on this stage full of youthful energy and technological enthusiasm.Unlocking the Smart Computing Code in the Cyber PaletteTopic sharing.

How can we view the Earth's hidden structures from space?

How can satellites complete intelligent analysis in an instant?

How can we truly integrate aerospace technology into daily life and protect the environment?

In the technological wave of the 2050 conference, CAS Xi'an Aerospace...Hyperspectral remote sensing + Artificial intelligenceThe deep integration of these technologies has opened a brand-new "eye in space," using technology to perform a panoramic "space CT scan" of the Earth, igniting heated discussions on the new ecosystem of aerospace information.

Before officially starting his presentation, Lei Teng introduced the tremendous changes in commercial spaceflight, especially in hyperspectral remote sensing, in recent years. He stated that in the past few years, my country's commercial spaceflight has made steady breakthroughs, and hyperspectral remote sensing technology has continued to mature. Facing a new stage, the industry's core mission has long since shifted to the integration of sensing, communication, and computing, enabling space technology to truly serve all industries and reach every household.

Lei Teng's speech revolved aroundHard refactoring, soft engineTwo core elements unveil the mysteries of future aerospace intelligence.

Traditional remote sensing relies on "sky-sensing and ground-based computing," involving aerial photography and ground-based computation. This approach suffers from high latency and slow response times, often resulting in missed opportunities in situations such as fires, pollution, and geological disasters. Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics CAS Aerospace Science and Technology Group Co.,LTD has made a groundbreaking proposal:Send computing power to the sky

The shift from "serial processing on-orbit" to "parallel processing on-orbit" enables on-orbit data acquisition, processing, and decision-making, equipping satellites with a "space brain." Response speed is reduced from hours to seconds, allowing for the transmission of location, range, and trend information for emergencies such as fires and pollution within seconds, transforming space-based information from reactive to proactive.

Lei Teng explained that the "Xiguang Series" hyperspectral intelligent computing constellation is currently making breakthroughs in key technologies such as lightweighting of large on-board models and inter-satellite collaborative computing, building an integrated capability of "space sensing, space data, space computing, and space application", and opening a new chapter of "on-orbit computing and real-time intelligence".

If computing power is the key support, then...ThatHyperspectral AI large models are the soft engine for unlocking the value of data. The 360-degree circular giant screen at the lecture venue presented a stunning "cyber palette"—each color is a unique spectral "fingerprint" of matter.

Conventional remote sensing can only "see shapes and distinguish colors," while hyperspectral remote sensing takes "spectral X-rays" of everything, accurately identifying information such as material composition, nutritional status, pollution type, and mineral type through hundreds of continuous bands. Beneath the lush green lies the nutrition of vegetation, between the azure blues reveals the condition of water bodies, and the interplay of ochre, red, and bright yellow outlines geological codes, advancing remote sensing from "seeing" to "understanding."

CAS Xi'an Optics & Aerospace and its Zhejiang Laboratory collaborate to create a large-scale AI model for hyperspectral remote sensing.By deeply integrating spectroscopy, artificial intelligence, and industry knowledge, it addresses the pain points of traditional identification methods, such as low efficiency, high cost, and difficulty in scaling. In fields such as precision agriculture, ecological protection, and resource exploration, the large-scale model achieves a leap from "observing growth" to "analyzing nutrition," from "checking pollution" to "identifying types," and from "wide-area search" to "targeted identification," making spectral "fingerprints" more accurate, broader, and easier to use.

Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan, CAS Xiguang Aerospace has identified two main development themes:"Hardline"Focusing on spaceborne intelligence to achieve the integration of perception and computing;"Soft Main Theme"We delve into the industry's large-scale models to promote the deep integration of application and value. In the future, we will focus on three major areas and continue to exert our efforts.: Build a space-ground collaborative intelligent computing architecture to achieve seamless cooperation between space and ground computing power; improve the reliability and versatility of hyperspectral large models to make AI more reliable and universal; improve the standards for remote sensing data assetization to pave the way for large-scale ecosystem services.

Spaceflight is more than just a romantic pursuit of stargazing; it is a powerful force for protecting the Earth and serving the nation's economy and people's livelihoods. On the stage of the 2050 Conference, CAS Xi'an Aerospace demonstrated through its cutting-edge innovations that when satellites can think and everything has fingerprints, aerospace intelligence will bring a safer and smarter future to the Earth, writing a new chapter in China's commercial aerospace capabilities benefiting all industries and humanity!
