Hyperspectral remote sensing satellites occupy an important position in the field of remote sensing technology due to their unique technical characteristics. Hyperspectral remote sensing technology employs high-resolution imaging spectrometers, which, in addition to identifying altered minerals, can also monitor environmental changes in mining areas. Hyperspectral satellites acquire detailed spectral information of surface objects to reflect the chemical composition and physical properties of minerals. Using hyperspectral imaging technology, they can generate hyperspectral data cube maps in the visible, shortwave, and infrared ranges. Combined with the identification of altered minerals, this accurately reveals mineral distribution and identifies potential mineralization target areas. Furthermore, hyperspectral satellite data features high spatial resolution and rich spectral information, accurately reflecting the geological structure and mineralization information of mining areas, providing crucial scientific basis for the development and utilization of mineral resources.

As the foundation of this strategic cooperation, the mineral monitoring satellite in the Xi'an-1 hyperspectral functional constellation, currently under development by CAS Xi'an Optics & Aerospace, will play a crucial role. At the Xi'an Satellite Application Conference on December 23, CAS Xi'an Optics & Aerospace just announced the development progress of the mineral monitoring satellite and the high-resolution agricultural monitoring satellite in the Xi'an-1 functional constellation, with a planned launch in 2025.

The Xiguang-1 mineral monitoring satellite is equipped with a short-wave infrared hyperspectral optical payload and a panchromatic camera. It has the capabilities of high resolution, high spectral resolution, and wide-area monitoring, enabling precise identification and distribution monitoring of minerals in mining areas. Designed and developed entirely independently by Xiguang Aerospace, it aims to achieve comprehensive data collection and analysis of key and hotspot cities and surrounding areas through satellite networking. It demonstrates advantages such as high speed and stable cycle, providing a new approach for the monitoring and management of mineral resources.

Through this strategic cooperation, CAS Xi'an Aerospace and Xinghuo Group will jointly promote the innovation and application of hyperspectral remote sensing technology, and facilitate the deep integration of remote sensing technology with mineral monitoring and exploration. Leveraging their respective professional strengths, both parties will jointly conduct in-depth analysis and application of remote sensing satellite data, promoting the widespread application of remote sensing technology in natural resource management, environmental protection, and other fields, providing more precise and efficient technical support for the development and utilization of mineral resources.

Special Note

Recently, some self-media outlets published false information, claiming that the Xiguang-1 06 and 07 satellites, developed by Xiguang Aerospace, were launched on the Lijian-1 Y6 rocket.

This is explained here:

Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics CAS Aerospace Science and Technology Group Co.,LTD did not participate in the "one rocket, 11 satellites" launch mission of the Lijian-1 Y6 carrier rocket.

At the Xi'an Satellite Application Conference held on December 23, 2024, the plan to launch the 06 satellite (mineral monitoring satellite) and the 07 satellite (high-resolution agricultural monitoring satellite) of the Xi'an-1 hyperspectral functional constellation in July 2025 was just announced.

We have actively communicated with the self-media outlet regarding its inaccurate report, and its official WeChat account issued a correction on December 28th. The Xiguang-1 series satellites are currently under intensive development, and we thank everyone for their attention to these satellites.
