The CAS-CIS remote sensing constellation consists of 108 satellites. The commercial integrated remote sensing microsatellite constellation system is designed, developed, and operated entirely independently by CAS Xiguang.Once completed, it will become the largest and most comprehensive hyperspectral remote sensing constellation system in China.

The constellation is deployed in sun-synchronous and low-inclination orbits, encompassing hyperspectral satellites, high-resolution optical satellites, infrared satellites, video satellites, and radar satellites. Through integrated satellite platform and payload design, streamlined satellite batch development, and multi-satellite batch launch and deployment, it rapidly achieves on-orbit application capabilities. Equipped with various comprehensive payload configurations, it enables multi-purpose application development, comprehensively targeting fields such as natural resource monitoring, reconnaissance and mapping, national defense and security, environmental monitoring, marine monitoring, agriculture and forestry, emergency management, smart city planning, meteorology and hydrology, disaster reduction and relief, major engineering monitoring, culture and arts, finance and insurance, and internet value-added services. It provides high-frequency revisit monitoring of any target area and, based on the company's self-developed cloud service system, creates a satellite remote sensing big data sharing platform to provide commercial remote sensing data services to global users.

CAS Xi'an Optics & Technology Group Co., Ltd. (CAS Xi'an Optics) continuously optimizes the onboard payload configuration and key technical indicators, enhances platform capabilities, and improves the system's spatial resolution, temporal resolution, and observation methods. The two hyperspectral satellites that have now undergone ground-based joint testing are the first in China to carry a hyperspectral imager on a satellite weighing over 100 kilograms, and have achieved the highest geodetic resolution and spectral resolution in China.Meanwhile, by utilizing the only turntable technology in the country that has been verified in orbit, a hyperspectral satellite with hyperspectral and turntable technology was deployed, effectively improving response timeliness.

Targeting the application needs of various fields such as military, civilian and commercial in my country, CAS Xiguang has vigorously improved the performance level, lifespan and manufacturing capabilities of small satellites, and continuously innovated new uses and systems for small satellites in various fields. It has given full play to the characteristics of small satellites, such as mobility, high functional density, short development cycle, high cost-effectiveness and suitability for large-scale constellation networking, and comprehensively developed optical remote sensing small satellite constellations and business operations. In March 2022, the 50-kilogram-class hyperspectral satellite put into production by CAS Xiguang is currently the lightest and smallest hyperspectral satellite in China, and also has the highest geodetic resolution and spectral resolution in China.

Aiming at the future demand for large-scale commercial satellite constellations, CAS Xi'an Optoelectronics has invested early to accelerate the development of satellite platforms, optical payloads, and overall satellite design verification capabilities. It is also accelerating the development and utilization of new AIT technologies and methods to comprehensively enhance the rapid development, production, and application capabilities of 50kg-class microsatellites. With the capabilities of 100kg-class hyperspectral and high-resolution satellites, these 50kg-class satellites can significantly reduce satellite size and weight, thereby lowering development and launch costs and increasing profit margins. Furthermore, they can utilize one-click multi-satellite deployment to more quickly form remote sensing constellations.

The hyperspectral payload of the CAS Xiguang constellation has hyperspectral dispersive capability in the visible-near infrared band of 150-300 nm, with a spectral resolution better than 2 nm, reaching the highest spectral resolution in domestic commercial aerospace.It has wide applications in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, geology and mining, soil, water bodies, and disasters; the ground resolution reaches 10m, which can finely describe the details of ground features; at the same time, the lightweight design keeps the weight of a single satellite within 60kg, and it can be launched with four satellites in one rocket, with a revisit cycle of more than 2 times per day, meeting the needs of most hyperspectral applications.
